<p> [Text] Food and Agriculture Organization [FAO] aid has been
held up near Mitsiwa Port for a week, and the EPLF [Eritrean
People's Liberation Front] has not allowed UN officials ashore.
FAO says it has been forced to return its delegation to its
headquarters so the vessel carrying officials and relief aid,
which is desperately needed to save four million lives in
northern Ethiopia, has also left Mitsiwa. The FAO sent the
vessel following the Ethiopian authorities' approval to use
Mitsiwa Port. It is puzzling why the EPLF will not allow the
FAO officials with food aid to use the port. This move is aimed
at compelling the government to accept their terms for settling
the conflict. A solution to the famine crisis must not be
delayed because four million lives are at stake. According to
the UN, 900,000 tonnes of food will be needed.
